It is amazing how many managers who have read Eli Goldratt’s The Goal have no idea what a “Drum Buffer Rope” scheduling system looks like in practice.

This is even more important when you realize how effective DBR really is — Rod and I have more than 70 years of manufacturing systems experience between us, and we still have not come across ANYTHING that is even close to DBR in terms of generating fast, massive and sustainable performance improvement with little risk. With the potential to be even better when combined with Lean, or Six Sigma, or both.

Well, since 1993 Rod and I have been using Excel-based Drum-Buffer-Rope scheduling software to support our TOC implementations in a wide variety of small to mid-size manufacturing businesses.

We are making the most recent version of this software — February 2010 vintage — available to qualifying manufacturers. Our primary intention is that you use the software to examine and better understand DBR; of course you may also choose to use the software to run part of your plant, or even the whole plant, and of course the software was developed with this functionality in mind – but be aware, we accept no liability and make no warranty of performance or results if you do try this route without our help.
